2017

In case I don’t get time later, just like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. 2017 is going to be awesome…

Please look out for regular blog posts and website information to come.

NextPhase Development

So, there I was working on some teaching material when an email came through and I have to say it was out of the blue.

The email asked if I would be interested in speaking to NextPhase Development and a position with them concerning Post-Planning, to be more precise, Post-Planning Manager….

So, what do I do.  Loved what I was doing at College but hey, a chance to get back into Architectural Design and Surveying.  So loving with working with wood and materials that have shaped my career, or, lets go on site today and look at this project in Cheshire…..

No, chance of any argument, I emailed back and took a gamble.  It paid off, without going into too much I had the interview, landed the job and am now Post-Planning Manager at this company.

Moving forward then, what to do with my side.  Well, I’m thinking it will be NextPhase Development all the way, day by day so to speak.  This is my job now for which I’m very grateful to them.  I am again, doing the job I love albeit missing timber, but hold on there, another twist.  What about just simply bringing as much timber into my designs and work as possible.  That’ll work won’t it……

Yes, it will… so I do.

Karl Beeby Designs (as a business) will just go part-time, as it was when I started it, the irony of it.  I can just undertake small scale timber design, keep it timber, must be timber.  I’m getting more timber work into what I’m doing then.  That works I’m thinking…

Not only this but, and wait for it because this is a big but….. I’m now Board member of the Institute of Carpenters.

What a turn around………

The twist on the Masters course

Well, I picked two MSc programmes and was really happy that I had found ones which focused on a timber basis.  Unfortunately, when writing to find out more details I was told that the two courses have been pulled.

So, what to do now.  Well, three more have been looked at.

It very hard to find something with  a Distance Learning delivery for the entire programme.

The planning goes on………………

Time for a Masters Degree

Well, it has been some time in the thinking process, but that time is over I think.

I am certain now that a Masters Degree MSc programme is what I want to do over the coming few years and whether  this is for work or my career in education, well it doesn’t matter.  I have messed about with the idea and I think, really, messed about for too long.  So action is called for.  I have narrowed it down to 3 possible and all relating to timber in design / construction.  I don’t want to be told how to design furniture (I can do that already and to some degree of success) so a timber related subject either as a material, in engineering or in a design management way.

Which ever one I choose, it will have to be on a distance learning programme and the 3, all 3, are just that.  So here we go, emails sent out so just waiting and hopefully I can arrange to start this year.

If its a success then plenty of information will be placed on here and indeed m social media network……

Architectural Joinery

So, things move on and we must do to.

No longer am I producing architectural plans and to be fair have not been for a few years now, due to concentrating on getting young aspiring surveyors, architectural designers, carpenters and joiners through college.  A big ask I know, but it is rewarding and good to do.  I get to undertake a great deal of research (writing lesson plans, etc)

So what it Karl Beeby Designs all about now…  Well, I have had this idea for a while now and am now running with it, the idea is to fuse architectural style design with carpentry & joinery and its working.  I am producing furniture, external garden offices, shelters, manufacturing windows and doors, bespoke kitchens, cabinets, in fact anything joinery you require I am doing it.  I am also working with some of the builders, surveyors, architects that I used to work with assisting their in house teams to develop an push forward timber technology.  Its great and please watch out for future posts concerning this.

Now heavily involved with Institute of Carpenters…….                                                                                        Vice Chairman of North West, North Wales and Northern Ireland Region of the Institute, On the Membership Committee for the Institute and involved with the North Midlands Membership Group.  Its a good time for me.

So, thats it for now.  As always I will try and keep posting but you can always keep in touch via Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin.

Time for change

Well it’s been a while.
I’m afraid I have to offer an apology as things have been really mad at our end.
The business is still running, however, we have trimmed it down to our core specialisms…..

Architectural Technology & Design Management but specialising with Timber Technology. This centres from and yes, you’ve guessed it, because I’m a Carpenter and Joiner. It also has something to do with the fact that I’m now teaching more or less on a full time basis within carpentry and joinery.

What a shake up eh…

As I am focusing on architectural timber technology and teaching or education within the construction industry, what better than to have a website that I can post to and students, fellow professionals, potential clients, builders, in fact anyone really so they can use the detail contained within.

So here goes, writing links, sharing information, blogging, sharing photos and drawings.
Hope you enjoy………..

Don’t forget you can still find me on Twitter, Facebook (including a Page), LinkedIn and Instagram

A FRESH CHALLENGE

As a business we must value what we do, what we achieve and what we offer to our Clients.

Because of my experiences and qualifications that have been gained and the the work the business undertakes in the course of every day activities no two days are really ever the same.
I have the Architectural technology design in addition to Carpentry and Joinery / Building works.

For the past several years I have also been a regular visiting lecturer at Burton and South Derbyshire College within the Construction and Civil Engineering department.

I can now be found at Burton and South Derbyshire College on a much more permanent basis. Its a fresh challenge for me, sharing my knowledge, experiences of site, expertise in design and building. Working hand in hand with the business still, I will continue to be a regular on site and be able to continue passing live experiences onto the students as well as the latest influences, legislation, materials and ideas.
